Messi to likely move on from PSG as offer from Saudi club Al Hilal lingers: Reports

Paris St Germain's Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi, the Argentine football star, is reportedly considering leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and joining Saudi club Al Hilal at the end of the season. This news has caused a stir in the football world, with fans eagerly awaiting confirmation of his future plans.

According to a source close to the PSG club, Messi is “much more likely” to leave at the end of the season than to sign a new deal. This is a significant shift in dynamics from earlier this year when PSG was actively trying to renew his contract. However, recent developments indicate that the club is no longer pushing to renew his contract, making his departure much more likely.

Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, was spotted in Riyadh in March, adding fuel to the rumors that the footballer may join Al Hilal. Furthermore, ESPN reported that Messi is actively considering an offer from the Saudi club, which would see him join their city rivals, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.

If Messi does decide to leave PSG and join Al Hilal, it would be a massive coup for the Saudi club. The country has been investing heavily in sports as part of the Vision 2030 reform plan, which aims to diversify the country’s economy and improve the quality of life for its citizens. Hosting international sporting events such as Formula One, golf, and boxing has been one of the key ways in which the country has been promoting itself to the world.

Football is also a significant part of Saudi Arabia’s sporting scene, with the Saudi team making history by beating Argentina in the FIFA World Cup last year. Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to join Al Nassr also caused a stir in the football world, further raising the profile of Saudi football.

Al Hilal, the club that Messi is reportedly considering joining, is one of the most successful football clubs in Saudi Arabia, having won numerous domestic and international titles. If Messi does join Al Hilal, he would be joining a team with a rich footballing history and a passionate fan base.

However, the move would not be without its challenges. Messi is currently costing PSG around 40 million euros ($43.6 million) a year in wages, which is a significant amount of money for any football club to pay. Furthermore, PSG has to keep in line with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, which means that they may struggle to offer Messi a new deal on a reduced salary.

Additionally, Barcelona has been openly courting Messi, hoping to persuade him to return to the Camp Nou two years after he left the club where he won four Champions League titles. Barcelona has been struggling to find a suitable replacement for Messi since he left, and his return to the club would undoubtedly be a significant boost for the team.

Lionel Messi’s potential move to Al Hilal has caused a lot of excitement in the football world. If he does decide to leave PSG and join the Saudi club, it would be a massive coup for them and a significant loss for PSG. The move would also be a significant step forward for Saudi football, which has been making great strides in recent years. However, there are still many unknowns, and it remains to be seen where Messi will end up next season.
